MoITT Accelerates Broadband Expansion to Strengthen Digital Economy

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) is ramping up efforts to expand broadband access and digital infrastructure across Pakistan. New projects aim to increase fiber connectivity, attract foreign investment, and position the country as a regional digital hub.

Under the Universal Service Fund (USF), the ministry has already extended broadband access to more than 37 million people in 21,700 mauzas. It has also laid 18,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cable and provided 4G coverage along 2,500 kilometers of national highways and motorways.

The MoITT’s Telecom Wing is spearheading initiatives such as cross-border fiber routes, submarine cable landings, and the National Fiberization Policy, developed under the World Bank-supported Digital Economy Enhancement Project (DEEP).

Meanwhile, digital skill programs like DigiSkills 3.0, Code4AI, and Cybersecurity Hackathons are training millions in AI, freelancing, gaming, and enterprise technologies. These programs aim to prepare youth for global digital jobs and strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy.
