MoITT Completes 19 IT and Telecom Projects Worth Rs12 Billion to Boost Pakistan’s Digital Growth

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has completed 19 major public sector IT and telecom projects over the last two fiscal years (2023–24 and 2024–25), investing Rs12.06 billion to strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, develop skilled human capital, and accelerate technology exports.

Out of the Rs12.65 billion allocated for these initiatives, Rs12.06 billion was utilized. The projects cover a wide range of areas, including broadband expansion in remote regions, workforce training, and national digitalization programs.

The Special Communication Organization (SCO) led seven projects aimed at enhancing telecom and IT infrastructure in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB). Meanwhile, the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) completed six projects to boost IT exports and workforce capacity.

These included setting up 25 Software Technology Parks (STPs) nationwide, providing internships to 2,700 graduates under the ICT Internship Program, and training 8,600 IT professionals through the Certification of IT Professionals initiative.

PSEB also supported 40 IT and ITeS companies in achieving international data protection and ISO compliance standards. Additionally, 31 call centers received ISO 18295 certification to standardize industry operations.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) established 13 National Incubation Centers (NICs) in major universities, fostering innovation hubs with provincial IT departments. The National Freelance Training Program (NFTP) trained 16,557 freelancers, promoting self-employment and digital entrepreneurship across Pakistan.

Other key projects include the digitalization of 184 police stations under the Crime Analytics and Smart Policing initiative; a High Impact Boot Camp training 200 professionals in data science, blockchain, and cybersecurity, with 100 earning international certification; and the establishment of the Sino-Pak Center for Artificial Intelligence at PAF-IAST, Haripur.

Additionally, the ministry automated the President’s Secretariat and conducted a Technology Export Marketing Feasibility Study to support Pakistan’s growing IT export sector.

These projects highlight MoITT’s ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s digital ecosystem, expand employment opportunities, and position Pakistan as a competitive technology export hub.
