Lumia Sad

Yes, we know that Windows Phone is dead but let’s take a look on which Windows Phone devices are most used globally.

AdDuplex is a company that helps Windows Phone developers cross-promote their apps for free and it serves more than 30 million ads each day. AdDuplex collects data about the market share of Windows Phone and all of its variants. According to the company, Microsoft Lumia 535 is the most used Windows Phone with 13% market share. Yeah, that’s right.

Lumia 535 is followed by Microsoft Lumia 640 with 10.2% share. Previously, Lumia 520 was the most used smartphone but it has now been taken over by Lumia 535. Moreover, Windows Phone 8.1 is the most used Windows Phone operating system with 73.8% share. That is sad as Windows Mobile 10 is the latest OS and only 20.9% of users are using it. Windows Phone 8 is used by 7.1% users and surprisingly, 1.2% of users are still using Windows Phone 7 (Really?).

Microsoft ended support for Windows phone devices on July 11th this year and said that Windows Phone 8.1 users are no longer eligible to get even security updates.

Here’s what Microsoft said when ending the support for Windows Phone devices:

As of July 11, 2017, Windows Phone 8.1 users are no longer eligible to receive new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft for free. Third parties or paid support programs may provide ongoing support, but it is important to recognize that Microsoft support will not publicly provide updates or patches for Windows Phone 8.1.”
