Multan Traffic Police Cracks Down on ‘Vigo Culture’ After Lahore Road Rage Incident

LAHORE: After a viral video sparked outrage over the reckless behavior of private security guards escorting luxury vehicles, authorities have taken action against the so-called “Vigo culture.” The footage showed a heated altercation in which an armed guard opened fire on an unarmed citizen following a road rage incident. The alarming display of impunity on the streets led to public outcry, highlighting concerns over security convoys disrupting traffic and forcing commuters to yield to unofficial motorcades.

In response, Lahore Operations DIG Faisal Kamran ordered an FIR under the Anti-Terrorism Act against the shooter and the individual being escorted. Meanwhile, Multan Traffic Police intensified their crackdown on illegal security practices, declaring that laws apply equally to all. The police have now banned police-style lights, sirens, fake number plates, and tinted windows on luxury vehicles, particularly Vigo and Revo models. Carrying weapons in public without proper authorization has also been outlawed.

Officials clarified that individuals facing genuine security threats may employ up to two private guards but only with formal approval from the police. Additionally, these guards must wear uniforms that do not resemble those of law enforcement agencies. Authorities emphasized that the crackdown aims to restore order and ensure road safety by eliminating unauthorized security protocols that disrupt daily traffic flow.
