A shocking administrative error by NADRA recently left a citizen’s wife officially declared dead, prompting immediate intervention from Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. The incident occurred at the Defence Open NADRA Center in Karachi, highlighting issues in document verification processes.
Minister Naqvi personally visited the 24-hour facility, conducting an unannounced inspection. During his visit, he interacted with citizens and staff, addressing complaints about delays, long waiting times, and errors in official documents. Acting swiftly, he instructed officials to correct the death certificate immediately.
In another case, he oversaw the immediate correction of a woman’s CNIC name error without any extra charges. Minister Naqvi emphasized that NADRA’s mission is to provide accurate, timely, and citizen-friendly services, assuring that ongoing system upgrades will prevent such errors in the future.
He further instructed NADRA staff to streamline processes so that citizens would not have to make repeated visits to complete their official work. The Interior Minister’s intervention reflects the government’s commitment to improving public service efficiency and maintaining trust in official documentation.
Background: NADRA, responsible for issuing national identity documents in Pakistan, has faced criticism in the past for errors in official records, delays, and bureaucratic inefficiencies. This high-profile correction aims to restore confidence among citizens and ensure more reliable services.
Minister Mohsin Naqvi said: “Our goal is to ensure that citizens receive correct documents without unnecessary delays. Every effort is being made to prevent such mistakes in the future.”
