The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a warning that citizens who delay obtaining or renewing their identity documents could face penalties if current trends of late renewals persist.
In an official advisory, NADRA emphasized that it is legally authorized to impose additional fees or penalties for late renewals. Such measures could be introduced in the next fiscal year after June if delays continue.
The authority highlighted that millions of identity documents across various categories remain expired or unrenewed, raising concerns over compliance with legal requirements.
Failure to renew identity cards on time can disrupt access to essential services, including banking, mobile connectivity, verification-based transactions, and participation in government and welfare programmes. NADRA also noted that many SIM cards remain linked to expired or invalid identity records, urging citizens to update their documents promptly to avoid service interruptions.
Citizens are advised to renew expired documents and ensure timely issuance of identity cards for individuals who have reached the age of 18. Services are available through NADRA registration centres, the Pak-ID mobile application, and e-Sahulat franchises. The authority warned that stricter measures may be implemented if compliance does not improve.
