The National Accounts Committee (NAC) has approved Pakistan’s Q1 GDP growth at 3.71% for FY2025-26, driven by strong performance in the Industry sector, while Agriculture and Services contributed positively. The committee also updated the annual GDP growth for FY2024-25 to 3.09%, slightly higher than the previous estimate of 3.04%.

Agriculture grew by 2.89%, despite negative performance in key crops such as Other Crops (-6.37%) and Important Crops (-0.75%). The Industry sector surged by 9.38%, with standout growth in Automobiles (84.60%), Transport Equipment (40.73%), and Electricity, Gas & Water Supply (25.46%). The Mining and Quarrying industry, however, declined by 4.13% due to reduced output in gas, crude oil, limestone, and other minerals.

Services expanded by 2.35%, led by Finance & Insurance (10.36%) and Public Administration & Social Security (8.08%), while Information & Communication experienced a decline of 28.70% due to lower mobile company revenues. Wholesale and Retail Trade increased by 3.08%, and Transport & Storage grew 3.16%.

The NAC reported that the overall size of Pakistan’s economy now stands at Rs.113.93 trillion (US$407.9 billion). Per capita income is calculated at Rs.506,736 (US$1,814). Revisions of per capita figures from 2016-17 onwards will follow after population projections based on the 2023 Census.

The 115th NAC meeting, chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Planning, Development & Special Initiatives, took place at the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics Headquarters, Islamabad. The committee finalized the revised FY2024-25 GDP and Q1 FY2025-26 growth rates, reflecting improvements in the Industry and Services sectors.

“The strong rebound in industry and steady growth in services show resilience in Pakistan’s economy, while targeted support for agriculture remains crucial,” an NAC official stated.
