National Assembly Standing Committee Approves Export, Tariff Reforms

The National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce on Monday approved two important pieces of legislation aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s trade and tariff framework.

The meeting, chaired by Muhammad Jawed Hanif Khan, MNA, saw the unanimous passage of the Export Development Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2026 and the National Tariff Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026 after detailed deliberations.

During the session, a committee member proposed several amendments to the Export Development Fund (Amendment) Bill, 2026. The committee reviewed and adopted these changes, following which the bill was approved unanimously.

The committee then took up the National Tariff Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which was also passed without opposition, reflecting broad consensus among members on the proposed changes.

Chairman Muhammad Jawed Hanif Khan described both bills as significant for the country’s commerce and trade governance. He thanked committee members for their participation and acknowledged their constructive input during the discussions.

The meeting was attended in person by Dr. Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Ms. Kiran Haider, Mr. Asad Alam Niazi, Mr. Gul Asghar Khan, and Dr. Ramesh Kumar Vankwani. Other members, including Ms. Shaista Pervaiz, Mr. Farhan Chishti, Choudhary Iftikhar Nazir, and Mr. Muhammad Numan, joined the proceedings virtually.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Law and Justice, Ministry of Commerce, and the National Assembly Secretariat were also present to assist the committee during the legislative review.
