The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has asked the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government to provide 200 police officers on deputation to strengthen its operations. The request includes 20 deputy superintendents of police (DSPs).
The agency sent its first letter to the KP chief secretary and the inspector general of police on September 18, seeking 147 officers of various ranks. The director administration sent a second letter on October 2, requesting another 53 officers, including 20 DSPs.
The requested personnel include 20 DSPs, 24 inspectors and 71 sub-inspectors, of whom 28 are female. The list also covers 21 assistant sub-inspectors, 26 male constables and head constables, and 38 female constables and head constables.
Additional Director NCCIA Nisar Ahmad Khan confirmed that letters have been sent to the KP government and police. The agency has asked for officers with expertise in cybercrime, investigation and related services from different regions of the province.
Several personnel currently working at the NCCIA hold contract positions and have not yet been regularised.
The agency has stepped up action against gangs and individuals involved in online fraud, blackmail and related offences. It has made several arrests in recent months in KP and other provinces. Thousands of complaints from the public are currently under investigation and processing.
