NEPRA Crackdowns on Power DISCOs for Halting Net Metering Applications

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has taken serious notice of a major issue in the energy sector. Several Power Distribution Companies (DISCOs) have reportedly stopped the registration of new net metering applications.

Consequently, the regulatory authority decided to intervene immediately. According to NEPRA, the authority observed that various DISCOs suddenly halted the registration process for new net metering connections. The authority termed this suspension a matter of “grave concern”.

Furthermore, the regulator clarified its stance on the move. It stated that blocking net metering applications falls under the category of an “open violation” of prevailing laws and established regulations. In response to this violation, NEPRA issued immediate orders to all distribution companies, including K-Electric. The authority demanded complete details regarding the suspension of net metering services.

Moreover, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) set a strict deadline for compliance. It directed all DISCOs to provide the required information within three working days.

Previously, the online portals were out of service for a while, which sent a wave of panic among citizens, who were trying to apply for net metering under the current regulations. Speculations were made that the relevant authorities had physically locked the online portals to avoid new net metering applications.
