Net Metering Units in Pakistan Jump 28% in September 2025

Pakistan’s net metering adoption surged in September 2025, with units rising 28.1% month-on-month, reflecting growing rooftop solar installations and a shift away from exclusive grid reliance. According to NEPRA data compiled by Arif Habib Limited, net metering’s share in total electricity generation also increased by 57 basis points year-on-year.

The growth highlights strong seasonal solar output and expanding capacity among households and commercial users, as elevated power tariffs continue to drive interest in self-generation solutions. Overall power generation increased 0.8% year-on-year in September.

A renewable energy expert noted,

“The rising net metering trend shows that more consumers are taking energy into their own hands, reducing dependence on the national grid and contributing to sustainable electricity usage.”
