Internet Services Disrupted In Pakistan Due To Aae 1 Submarine Cable Fault Reports

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s internet capacity is set to expand with the deployment of new submarine cable systems, including Africa 1 and SMW6 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-Western Europe 6). According to sources within the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT), these systems will enhance the country’s global connectivity and improve internet reliability.

The new cable systems come at a time when data usage in Pakistan is growing steadily due to increased digital adoption and greater reliance on online services. These cables are expected to provide additional bandwidth and reduce the risk of outages by offering alternative data routes.

The Africa 1 submarine cable will connect multiple countries across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, providing faster internet speeds and improved connectivity for Pakistan. Similarly, the Sea-Me-We 6 (SMW6) system will link Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, offering higher capacity and better latency for data-intensive services, ensuring enhanced network performance.

Sources indicate that these projects are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. The planned deployment of 1,500 kilometers of Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) is also aimed at expanding high-speed internet access in underserved regions.

The addition of Africa 1 and SMW6 will diversify Pakistan’s connectivity routes, reducing dependency on older cables such as SMW4 and SMW5. This will minimize the impact of disruptions caused by maintenance or technical issues.

Industry experts suggest that increased bandwidth from these new cable systems may also support emerging technologies like 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), and cloud-based services, which require high-capacity networks.

Sources have stated that improving connectivity is part of the government’s broader initiative to enhance the country’s digital infrastructure. The new submarine cables are expected to support future data demands and improve network resilience.
