The Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) will install a Low-Level Wind Shear System (LLWS) at Islamabad International Airport at a cost of Rs254 million. The system is expected to be completed within six months.
The ground-based network detects sudden changes in wind speed and direction and relays real-time warnings to Air Traffic Control. A Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) spokesman said in a press release that the project is a step toward aviation safety and the modernisation of the air navigation system.
The PAA signed two agreements to improve aviation safety and communication systems.
The second agreement covers the supply of modern equipment for testing aviation radio systems. The PAA spokesman said the equipment will improve communication efficiency between aircraft and air traffic control.
