OnePlus 16 Might Feature the Highest Refresh Rate Ever on a Smartphone

OnePlus has barely wrapped up the launch of the OnePlus 15, yet early leaks about its successor are already gaining momentum. The next flagship, expected to be called the OnePlus 16, is now the subject of fresh speculation that points to a major leap in display technology, just days after a camera-related rumor surfaced.

Earlier reports suggested the OnePlus 16 could feature a massive 200MP camera sensor. Now, a new leak claims the company is testing an ultra-high refresh rate display for the upcoming device. According to the source, OnePlus is experimenting with a screen capable of at least a 200Hz refresh rate for its next flagship smartphone.

The exact number remains unclear. A 240Hz panel would be the most logical upgrade, but the leak does not confirm this detail. Even so, a 200Hz display would still set a new benchmark. No smartphone on the market currently offers such a high refresh rate.

However, the real-world impact raises several questions. Most mobile games today do not fully support extremely high refresh rates. It also remains unknown whether users will be able to force apps to run at the maximum refresh rate.

Still, this development could make sense in the broader context of hardware upgrades. With newer silicon-carbon batteries offering higher capacities, the usual concerns around battery drain may be less severe. If implemented well, a 200Hz display could deliver smoother visuals without a noticeable hit to endurance.
