The OnePlus 16 has sold more than 70,000 units in China within an hour of going on sale. OnePlus China president Li Jie shared the milestone on Weibo shortly after sales began at 10 AM local time.
The phone was unveiled in China on Monday and quickly attracted strong demand. According to Li, the OnePlus 16 ranks first among this year’s Android flagship phones in comparable launch-period sales. He also described the growth as rare for the industry.
However, OnePlus has not shared its previous model’s sales figures for the same period. As a result, it remains unclear how much the new phone has improved over its predecessor.
The OnePlus 16 features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 1272 x 2772 resolution. It supports a 165Hz refresh rate, which rises to 185Hz in supported games. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chipset, with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.

Its camera system includes a 200MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP ultrawide camera with autofocus. A 50MP front camera handles selfies and video calls.
The device also packs a 9,000mAh battery with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. It carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance. On the software side, it runs ColorOS 17 based on Android 17.
Pricing starts at CNY 5,999, or around $896. However, buyers in Europe and North America will miss out on the launch. OnePlus officially exited both regions in July, leaving the OnePlus 16 unavailable in these markets.
The strong launch suggests that OnePlus still has a sizeable fan base in China. However, without comparable sales figures for the previous model, the scale of its growth remains difficult to measure.
