Pakistan’s net foreign direct investment (FDI) increased by 20% year-on-year to $720 million during the first three months of fiscal year 2026-27, according to State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data compiled by Topline Securities.
In September 2026, net FDI reached $219 million, marking an 18% increase compared with the same month last year. However, foreign direct investment declined by 32% month-on-month from $322 million recorded in August.
The mining and financial business sectors attracted the highest foreign investment inflows during September, reflecting continued interest in these areas of Pakistan’s economy.
On a country-wise basis, Canada and the United Kingdom were the leading net contributors to Pakistan’s foreign direct investment during the month.
The increase in FDI during the first quarter indicates higher net foreign investment compared with the same period last year. However, the monthly decline in September highlights fluctuations in investment inflows.
Foreign direct investment is an important source of external financing for Pakistan, as it can support business expansion, industrial activity, employment generation and economic growth.
