Pakistan Car Sales Surge 35.5% in January 2026: PAMA

Published by

Car sales in Pakistan recorded a strong rebound in January 2026, rising 35.5% year-on-year to 23,055 units, compared to 17,010 units in the same month last year, according to data released by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA).

On a month-on-month basis, sales jumped sharply by 73.6% from 13,280 units in December 2025, signaling a strong start to the year for the auto sector.

Passenger Cars Lead Growth

Passenger cars were the main driver of growth, with 18,602 units sold, reflecting a 56.5% increase YoY and a 74.3% rise compared to December.

In contrast, sales of LCVs, vans, and jeeps declined 13.1% YoY, although they still posted a 70.7% MoM increase, indicating improving short-term demand.

Production Also Rises

Car production mirrored the sales trend, increasing 42% YoY to 22,093 units in January 2026. Passenger car production surged 63.4%, while production of LCVs, vans, and jeeps fell 8.5% compared to the same period last year.

FY26 Performance So Far

During the first seven months of FY26, total car sales reached 111,368 units, marking a 43.4% increase over 77,645 units sold in the same period last year. Passenger car sales rose 44.9% to 84,512 units, while LCVs, vans, and jeeps increased 39.1% to 26,856 units.

Industry experts attribute the growth to improving consumer confidence, stable auto financing, and rising demand for personal vehicles, despite elevated car prices and broader economic challenges.

PAMA data suggests that Pakistan’s auto market remains resilient, with passenger vehicles continuing to drive sectoral expansion and production adjusting to meet rising demand.
