Pakistan has failed for a third consecutive time to secure a single bid for liquefied natural gas cargoes, as global suppliers stay away from the spot market following the halt in Qatari LNG shipments caused by the Iran-US conflict.
According to sources at Pakistan LNG Limited, the company issued its third tender in September seeking cargo delivery between September 12 and 16. The bid deadline of September 8 passed without a single international supplier expressing interest in delivering LNG to Pakistan.
The latest failure follows two earlier cancellations this year, when tenders were scrapped after bids came in at prices considered too high. Pakistan relies on spot LNG cargoes to fuel power generation, particularly during periods of peak electricity demand.
The prolonged supply disruption has already begun affecting the national grid. LNG-fired power plants with a combined generation capacity of 6,000 megawatts remain shut, deepening concerns over electricity shortfalls as the country struggles to secure alternative cargo sources.
