Pakistan has introduced new conditions for restoring Sui gas connections that have remained disconnected for more than a year. Under the revised policy, consumers reconnecting these connections will no longer qualify for the cheaper gas tariff and will instead be billed under the liquefied natural gas (LNG) tariff.
The new rules apply to all consumers, including domestic users. Consumers seeking reconnection will be required to pay the applicable reconnection fee, while their gas consumption will be charged according to the LNG tariff policy.
The revised conditions could increase energy costs for households and other consumers whose gas connections have remained disconnected for an extended period. The shift to LNG-based billing means these consumers may face higher bills compared with those eligible for the regular, lower gas tariff.
Consumers planning to restore long-disconnected connections should account for the reconnection fee and the applicable LNG tariff when assessing the cost of resuming gas service.
