In a high-profile technology rollout today, the Ministry of Information Technology & Telecommunication unveiled Pakistan’s first official AI avatar “Laila”, underlining the government’s commitment to harness artificial intelligence across public and private sectors.
The AI avatar was introduced during an exclusive government event attended by senior policymakers and tech leaders, highlighting Pakistan’s intention to become a leading AI nation and adopt AI in every aspect of governance, services, and innovation.
Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said the AI avatar is more than symbolic, it represents Pakistan’s resolve to bring cutting-edge technology into everyday life, from educational tools to citizen services. The launch is part of a larger national strategy that aims to train 1 million professionals in AI skills by 2030, fund 1,000 AI ventures, support 400 university AI projects annually, and develop 50 sectoral AI models tailored to Pakistan’s needs- ambitious targets displayed prominently in the national AI roadmap.
“Our government is determined to embrace artificial intelligence across all spheres of national life and ensure Pakistan is a front-runner in the global AI economy,” the minister said.
The AI avatar is designed to interact with users, assist in educational modules and help bridge the digital divide by offering intuitive AI interfaces in multiple languages. The government said it plans to integrate AI avatars into public platforms to make digital experiences more accessible and responsive.
Industry experts hailed the initiative as a bold step towards achieving Pakistan’s long-term objectives of innovation, workforce development, and economic competitiveness.
“This is where policy meets people- AI is not just an idea, but a tool for national impact,” an industry analyst said.
