Pakistan Railways is set to outsource four major passenger trains to the private sector this month as part of efforts to improve operational efficiency and service delivery.
The trains include Millat Express, Awam Express, Mianwali Express, and Karakoram Express. The decision was discussed during a meeting chaired by Minister for Pakistan Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi in Lahore, where the department’s performance and administrative matters were reviewed.
Abbasi directed officials to strengthen security at railway workshops and yards through modern CCTV systems and private security personnel. He also ordered better advance planning, action against vendors responsible for delays, and measures to prevent the theft of railway scrap and spare parts.
The minister further directed officials to ensure timely completion of locomotive repairs and ordered the immediate outsourcing of brake and luggage vans under a uniform policy. He warned that negligence and poor-quality work would not be tolerated and that legal action could be taken against responsible officials.
