Indian Drone Shot Down Near Lahore As Tensions Rise Along Pakistan India Border

LATEST: Pakistan’s air defense forces shot down an Indian drone near a naval airbase in Lahore early Thursday, officials said, just a day after Pakistani security forces downed five Indian fighter jets. The incident, involving an Indian drone shot down near Lahore, comes amid escalating tensions between the neighboring countries.

Local police officer Mohammad Rizwan told AP that a drone was intercepted and downed close to Walton Airport, a small airfield located in a residential area of Lahore, approximately 25 kilometers (16 miles) from the Indian border. The site, which houses both civilian and military facilities, was the confrontation scene.

Meanwhile, local media outlets reported that two more drones were brought down in separate cities within Punjab province, where Lahore serves as the capital.

Two security officials, speaking anonymously due to restrictions on media interaction, stated that the air defense system successfully targeted a small Indian drone. However, it remains unclear whether the drone was equipped with any weaponry.

The Indian drone shot down near Lahore has heightened already fraught relations between Pakistan and India, particularly as thousands are being evacuated from border villages amidst fears of further escalation.
