Pakistan to Launch Mobile App for Online Passport Applications

Pakistan is moving towards a fully digital passport application system in an effort to streamline services and improve accessibility for citizens. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports has announced plans to launch a mobile application within the next two months, allowing users to apply for passports and pay associated fees directly through their smartphones.
According to Director General Mustafa Jamal Qazi, this development follows the rollout of a web-based portal that is already functional. The mobile app is intended to complement the portal and make the passport application process more accessible for people across the country, particularly those who may not have easy access to desktop computers.
Once fully implemented, the digital system will enable applicants to complete the entire process online, from form submission to fee payment without the need to visit government offices. Completed passports will then be delivered to applicants’ homes.
Qazi also acknowledged operational challenges faced by the department, including shortages of lamination paper and ink. These issues have contributed to delays in passport issuance, and efforts are underway to address them.
