In a landmark moment for Pakistan’s tech community, Veeam Software has acquired Securiti AI, a data security company founded by Rehan Jalil, for a massive $1.7 billion. The deal marks one of the biggest exits for a Pakistani founder, showcasing the growing influence of Pakistani talent in Silicon Valley and beyond.
From NED to Silicon Valley Success
Rehan Jalil’s journey from NED University in Karachi to leading billion-dollar tech ventures in the United States is nothing short of inspirational. After completing his MSEE from Purdue University and an AMP from Harvard Business School, Jalil began a career marked by continuous innovation in enterprise and cloud security.
Before founding Securiti in 2018, he held senior leadership roles at several major technology companies. He served as senior vice president and general manager for cloud security at Symantec, where he led global research and development efforts for cloud security products. His entry into Symantec followed its $4.7 billion acquisition of Bluecoat, where Jalil had been responsible for cloud security operations.
Before that, Jalil founded Elastica, a trailblazing company in the Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) space that helped define a new cybersecurity category. Bluecoat later acquired Elastica for $280 million in 2015.
Even before Elastica, he had founded WiChorus, a company focused on deep packet inspection and packet core technology that powered some of the earliest 4G networks. WiChorus was acquired by Tellabs for $180 million, further cementing Jalil’s reputation as a serial innovator. Earlier in his career, he also served as chief architect at Aperto Networks and contributed to multicore processor innovations at Sun Microsystems.
For his contributions to technology and entrepreneurship, Jalil was recognized as an Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year finalist in 2010 and listed among the Top 25 Disruptors in 2015.
The Rise of Securiti AI

Securiti raised around $150 million before the acquisition, making the $1.7 billion deal a remarkable 10x return for its investors. Its unified platform brings together data intelligence, control, and orchestration, enabling global organizations to manage security, governance, and compliance with greater efficiency.
The company has earned international recognition, including awards like “Most Innovative Startup” by RSA, “Top 25 Machine Learning Startups” by Forbes, and “Cool Vendor in Data Security” by Gartner. It was also named a “Privacy Management Wave Leader” by Forrester and featured among CB Insights’ Most Innovative AI Companies.
Why Veeam’s Acquisition Matters
By acquiring Securiti, Veeam aims to strengthen its AI-driven data security offerings and expand its global reach in enterprise data management. The integration of Securiti’s Graph and Machine Learning approach will allow Veeam to tackle complex enterprise data and AI challenges more effectively.
Jack Berkowitz, who worked closely with Jalil, praised the acquisition, noting how Securiti’s technology stood out for securing large-scale data estates. “When I first met Rehan and Securiti in 2022, it was clear that their approach to data and AI challenges was unmatched,” Berkowitz said.
