Pakistanis Among 1000 Fleeing Myanmar Scam Hub Raid Into Thailand

More than 1,000 people, including several Pakistanis, have fled from Myanmar into Thailand this week after the Myanmar military launched a raid on one of the country’s largest cyber scam hubs, Thai officials said on Friday.

The incident unfolded after troops targeted the KK Park compound, a sprawling online scam centre located near the Thai border, long known for housing international cybercrime networks. According to Thailand’s Tak provincial office, around 1,049 people crossed from Myanmar into the Mae Sot district between Wednesday and Friday morning, a sharp rise from 677 who had fled the compound by Thursday.

Authorities confirmed that nationals from Pakistan, India, Vietnam, Myanmar, Thailand, and over a dozen other countries were among those who escaped. Thailand’s Immigration Bureau stated that most of the arrivals were Chinese men.

The mass exodus followed Myanmar’s announcement on Monday that its military had raided KK Park and seized Starlink satellite internet devices used by operators at the scam centre. A recent AFP investigation revealed that the use of Starlink devices had surged across Myanmar’s cybercrime compounds in recent months.

Authorities in Tak also released images showing groups of men sitting beside their luggage, guarded by Thai security personnel. The situation underscores the growing regional impact of Myanmar’s cybercrime industry, which has drawn citizens from Pakistan and several other nations into its operations.
