Pakistan’s IT and telecom export earnings eased in November 2025 after hitting a record a month earlier, but overall growth this fiscal year remains strong. Export remittances from information technology and telecommunication services fell about 8 percent in November. The sector earned $356 million, down from $386 million in October 2025, based on State Bank of Pakistan data.
Still, the broader trend points upward. During the first five months of FY2025-26, from July to November, IT and telecom exports reached $1.796 billion. This represents an 18 percent increase from $1.521 billion in the same period last year.
October stood out as a landmark month for the industry. Export remittances climbed to a historic high of $386 million. The surge reflected rising global demand for Pakistan’s software development, IT-enabled services, and telecom solutions.
Year-on-year growth also stayed intact. In November, IT export remittances rose more than 14 percent compared to about $311 million in November last year. This performance highlights the sector’s resilience despite short-term monthly swings.
The continued expansion has lifted the sector’s importance in the national export mix. IT exports now contribute over 10.8 percent of Pakistan’s total exports. This is the highest share ever recorded.
Analysts link the growth to stronger global outsourcing demand and better digital infrastructure. They also point to higher participation by freelancers and software companies. Policy support for export-focused IT services has played a role as well.
However, experts warn that momentum cannot be taken for granted. They stress the need for consistent reforms, stable exchange rates, and smoother processes for exporters.
While November showed a temporary slowdown, the long-term outlook remains positive. Pakistan’s IT and telecom sector continues to emerge as a key driver of export growth and economic diversification.
