Pakistan just recorded a massive jump in digital exports. Specifically, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) reported that the country exported $1.246 billion in telecommunications, computer, and information services during the first quarter (July-September) of FY2027. Therefore, this marks a strong 17.7 percent increase from the $1.059 billion earned in the same period last year. Consequently, this $187 million surge highlights a growing digital economy. In fact, IT and telecom services now make up nearly 46 percent of Pakistan’s total services exports. As a result, the sector is driving crucial foreign exchange earnings for the country.
Pakistan’s IT & Telecom Exports Show Month-on-Month Growth
Furthermore, the monthly breakdown reveals a clear upward trend. In September FY2027 alone, IT export receipts reached $435 million. Previously, the sector earned $394 million in August. Consequently, the industry posted a solid month-on-month increase of 10.4 percent.
Moreover, the year-on-year comparison for September shows similar success. Last year, September FY2026 recorded $368 million in IT exports. Hence, the current numbers reflect an ongoing, rapid expansion of Pakistan’s digital services on the global stage.
Becoming a Regional Tech Hub As Overall Services Exports Soar
Undoubtedly, this growth aligns directly with national economic strategies. Pakistan is actively working to position itself as a regional hub for information technology services. This effort includes expanding software development, boosting freelancing, and empowering other digital businesses. Meanwhile, the country is successfully using these tech exports to diversify its revenue base well beyond traditional goods.
Besides the IT boom, total services exports also saw a major lift. During July-September FY2027, total services exports rose to $2.719 billion. This represents a 22.8 percent increase from the $2.214 billion generated in Q1 FY2026. Unsurprisingly, IT and telecom services easily remained the largest contributor to this total.
Additionally, other business sectors performed exceptionally well. Exports of other business services increased to $622 million in the first quarter, up from $486 million a year earlier. Similarly, transport services exports climbed to $295 million from $269 million. Ultimately, these combined numbers showcase a thriving, diversified export sector across the board.
