The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, in collaboration with the federal government, has approved the Peshawar Valley Railway, marking the first joint railway project in the province. Feasibility studies and initial groundwork have already begun, with the project expected to serve millions of passengers across the region.
The railway will be developed in three phases. Phase one covers a 62 km route connecting Nowshera, Jahangira, and Peshawar, with construction set to start immediately. Phase two will extend 65 km through Nowshera, Mardan, and Dargai, while phase three will cover 60 km, linking Kohat and Jhang. Each phase will feature new railway stations to enhance regional connectivity and efficiency.
The Secretary of Transport KP described the railway as a game-changer for the province. The project is expected to reduce infrastructure costs, improve transport efficiency, and provide economic and mobility benefits to millions of residents.
Officials emphasized that the project aligns with both federal and provincial development priorities and strengthens cooperation between the two governments. The railway is viewed as a milestone in provincial infrastructure development and a model for future federal-provincial collaboration in transport and infrastructure projects.
