Petrol dealers across Pakistan have warned of a potential nationwide strike, threatening to shut down fuel stations if their demands for higher commissions are not met.
The warning was issued by the Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association and the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association during a press conference in Islamabad.
PPDA Chairman Abdul Sami Khan stated that dealers are united in their stance and may be forced to either sell their petrol pumps or suspend operations if the government does not increase their commission to 8 percent.
He criticized the authorities for imposing heavy taxes while failing to consult stakeholders from the petroleum retail sector.
Meanwhile, APPPOA Chairman Humayun Khan said the current commission structure has made the business increasingly unsustainable. He pointed to multiple challenges, including rising fuel prices, the influx of smuggled petrol, and frequent inspections by unrelated departments.
The associations have demanded a proportional commission system linked to fuel price fluctuations. They urged the government to address their concerns immediately, warning that failure to act could disrupt fuel supply across the country.
