Petrol & Diesel Prices Slashed in Pakistan for New Year 2026
The Government of Pakistan has started 2026 with significant relief for the public. Effective today, January 1, 2026, the petrol and diesel prices have dropped substantially. The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) issued a notification late on Wednesday, December 31, confirming the reduction. This decision follows the recommendations put forward by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
New Petrol & Diesel Prices for January 2026
The government has slashed the price of Motor Spirit (Petrol) by Rs. 10.28 per litre. Simultaneously, High-Speed Diesel (HSD) sees a reduction of Rs. 8.57 per litre.
These new rates apply to the first fortnight of January 2026. You can view the comparison between the old and new rates below:
| Product | Old Price | Price Cut | New Price |
| Motor Spirit (Petrol) | Rs. 263.45 | (-) Rs. 10.28 | Rs. 253.17 |
| High Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs. 265.65 | (-) Rs. 8.57 | Rs. 257.08 |
The government reviews fuel prices every fortnight. Authorities adjust these rates based on fluctuations in international oil prices and the currency exchange rate.
This recent cut continues a positive trend for diesel consumers. In the previous fortnight, the government reduced diesel prices by Rs. 6 per litre. However, petrol prices had remained unchanged during that period.
This latest move offers a strong start to the New Year, providing much-needed economic relief to commuters and the transport sector alike.
