PIA Expands Global Cargo Reach Through Air France–KLM Deal

Published by

Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has signed a strategic cargo partnership with Air France–KLM, significantly expanding its global freight reach as the national carrier enters a new phase following privatization and restructuring.

Under the agreement, effective January 15, 2026, PIA Cargo will gain access to the extensive Air France–KLM global cargo network, allowing Pakistani exporters to ship goods across Europe and the United States using a single air waybill covering both airline systems.

The partnership enables cargo connectivity through regional hubs such as Dubai, Riyadh, and Dammam, with onward access to key destinations including Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Düsseldorf, New York, Atlanta, and Los Angeles.

Officials say the collaboration will strengthen Pakistan’s trade, logistics, and business connectivity, particularly for time-sensitive and high-value exports. The move follows the resumption of direct Islamabad–Paris flights, which have been operating twice weekly since January 10.

“The cargo partnership is expected to further enhance Pakistan’s access to major international markets,” officials said.

The development comes after the completion of PIA’s privatization, with the Arif Habib Consortium acquiring a 75% stake through a competitive bidding process. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the privatization as a milestone aimed at improving service quality and restoring PIA’s global standing.

With renewed European routes, an expanded cargo network, and private-sector management, PIA is positioning itself to play a stronger role in supporting Pakistan’s trade and aviation links with key global markets.
