Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has announced the establishment of the Daanish University of Applied and Emerging Sciences in Islamabad, utilizing £190 million transferred from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA). The amount, previously held in the Supreme Court of Pakistan’s account, has now been moved to the federal treasury.
While heading the Steering Committee meeting for the establishment of Daanish University of Applied and Emerging Sciences, the prime minister expressed his appreciation to the Chief Justice of Pakistan for facilitating the seamless transfer of £190 million to the federal government account.
Pakistan has received £190 million from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), which has been transmitted from the Supreme Court to the federal government’s account. In accordance with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision, this sum will be allocated to the construction of a revolutionary Danish University.
At the event, the prime minister emphasised that Daanish University would be a place where talented and deserving students could receive a high-quality, research-based education. He oversaw the expedited conclusion of legal procedures for the university’s acquisition of land in Islamabad.
Additionally, the PM directed the expedited resolution of the university’s charter and other legal matters. Additionally, he underscored the necessity of establishing Daanish University as a technical and applied sciences institution of international standing.
He further directed that the university’s architecture should reflect simplicity, with buildings constructed using red bricks and avoiding unnecessary expenditures to minimize costs. He also instructed to recruit highly qualified faculty and teachers for the university, which would be equipped with state-of-the-art technology and advanced research facilities.
PM Shehbaz stated that the university’s curriculum should be developed in accordance with international standards. He also instructed the establishment of a committee for the appointment of the Vice-Chancellor and a committee for the nomination of the Board of Trustees.
Daanish University and Daanish Schools were the subjects of a briefing during the meeting. It was emphasised that the prime minister would serve as the patron of Daanish University, which will be registered as a Section 42 corporation. All requisite formalities are expected to be finalised within a few days.
Land has been designated for the university in Sector H-16. In order to guarantee financial autonomy and minimal government interference, Daanish University will be administered by the Daanish Trust. Furthermore, Daanish Schools were announced to be established in Shigar, Gilgit, and Bagh, as well as in Neelum Valley (AJK) and underprivileged areas of Karachi.
Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Education and Vocational Training Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and senior government officials were present at the meeting.
