The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has set new rules for Pakistani students who want to study medicine abroad. Now, students must get at least 60% marks in FSc Pre-Medical and 50% in Pakistan’s MDCAT to be eligible for foreign medical colleges.
Besides marks, students must also register online with PMDC. Only after this registration can graduates take the National Registration Examination (NRE) in Pakistan, which is needed to get temporary registration and start working as a doctor.
These rules come under the PMDC Act 2022 and are meant to make sure that students studying abroad meet basic standards. PMDC also says that foreign medical colleges must be approved by authorities in that country and recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).
Students are advised to check the college’s approval on the ECFMG website before applying. This will help them avoid wasting time and money on schools that might not be recognized in Pakistan.
