Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today inaugurated IT Park Islamabad, a purpose-built technology facility designed to help Pakistani technology companies expand, support new enterprises, and strengthen the country’s capacity to serve global markets.
A project of the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) under the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication (MoITT), IT Park Islamabad marks a major milestone in their shared efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s technology infrastructure and enable IT companies to grow, innovate and compete globally.
Developed through cooperation between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea, the park brings together business, research, training and startup facilities within a single campus. It represents a major investment in the infrastructure needed to translate Pakistan’s technology talent into competitive businesses, skilled employment and export growth.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and other members of the Prime Minister’s cabinet. Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Pakistan H.E. Han Sungho, Chairman of the Pakistan Digital Authority Dr. Sohail Munir, senior officials of the Ministry of IT & Telecommunication and the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB), and representatives of industry, startups and academia also attended.
Addressing the ceremony, the Prime Minister highlighted the close and friendly relations between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea and commended their cooperation in bringing the project to fruition. The Prime Minister said:
This IT park is for the thousands of young girls and boys of Pakistan who will grow up to serve this nation. It is for their aspirations, their talent and the future they will build for our country.
Reflecting on the challenges overcome in delivering the project, he added:
This building stands as proof that when our intentions are sincere, Allah Almighty makes a way for us to succeed.
The Prime Minister announced that the facility would henceforth be known as Daanish IT Park, placing Pakistan’s young people and their aspirations at the heart of its purpose.
Federal Minister for IT & Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja praised the Prime Minister’s personal oversight of the project and his sustained attention to its completion despite the challenges it faced. She said:
The Prime Minister personally oversaw this project through its many challenges, keeping its completion a priority. His commitment has helped bring us to this milestone, delivering a facility that will support Pakistan’s technology companies and create opportunities for our young people.
Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Pakistan H.E. Han Sungho, in his address, highlighted the strong bilateral relations between the two countries and described the park as a continuation of their longstanding friendship.
The ceremony also featured an opening address by the Chairman of the Pakistan Digital Authority, Dr Sohail Munir.
Located on a 14.9-acre site at National Park Road, Chak Shahzad, the 12-storey park offers approximately 720,000 square feet of space, including 240,000 square feet of rentable office space.
Its facilities include a data centre, research and development and robotics laboratories, a startup hub, co-working spaces, training facilities, an Industry-Academia Centre and on-site business advisory services. These are complemented by amenities including daycare, banking, accommodation and restaurants.
By bringing companies, entrepreneurs, researchers and training facilities together, the park is designed to support collaboration between industry and academia and create opportunities for Pakistani talent to contribute to technology development and international business.
The inauguration comes as Pakistan’s ICT exports reached a record US$4.6 billion in FY2025-26.
The IT park Islamabad is licensed as a Special Technology Zone, with incentives for eligible enterprises under the applicable framework.
PSEB, the licensed Zone Developer, is inviting experienced local and international firms, independently or through joint ventures, to operate the park as a single integrated facility under a proposed 15-year, performance-based arrangement.
The US$ 92.7 million project was financed principally through a US$ 76.28 million concessional loan from the Republic of Korea’s Economic Development Cooperation Fund, representing approximately 82% of the project cost. The Government of Pakistan provided the remaining balance through the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
The project reflects Pakistan-Korea cooperation in developing the infrastructure needed to support Pakistan’s technology industry and its participation in the global digital economy.
