The Pakistan Super League (PSL) will use a player auction for the first time in its 11-year history as the tournament expands to eight teams with the addition of two new franchises.
The new teams, representing Hyderabad and Sialkot, have been added to the competition, marking a structural shift from the traditional draft system previously used by the league.
Under the new rules, each franchise was permitted to retain up to four players, with one player allowed in each of the Platinum, Diamond, Gold and Silver categories.
At the auction, teams must assemble squads ranging from 16 to 20 players, while ensuring compliance with regulations governing overseas and emerging player selections.
All PSL franchises are required to include a minimum of five and a maximum of seven overseas players in their final squads for the much-anticipated 2026 season.
Each team must also select at least two uncapped under-23 players, with at least one of those players included in every playing XI.
All players chosen through the auction will sign contracts covering two seasons, as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) plans a major auction after the 2027 edition.
The PSL 2026 auction is scheduled to begin today, February 11, at 11:30am local time.
It is worth noting that all the franchises have announced their retained players in the Platinum, Diamond, Gold and Silver categories.
Fans will be able to watch the auction live on the tournament’s official YouTube channel as well as the Pakistan Cricket Board’s YouTube platform.
