PSL Franchise Owners Take Jamaica Tallawahs Back to the CPL

Published by

The Jamaica Tallawahs will return to the 2026 CPL under new American owners, Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, who recently invested in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) team.

The three-time CPL champions missed the last two editions after former owner Kris Persaud sold the franchise back to the league in late 2023 due to a lack of government support.

Persaud subsequently acquired a new franchise in Antigua, named the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, leaving Jamaica without a team for the past two CPL seasons.

Kingsmen ownership

Kingsmen Sports Enterprise, led by Pakistani entrepreneur Fawad Sarwar in the US, has purchased the rights to the franchise and aims to promote Jamaica as a hub for cricket, culture, and sportainment.

Sarwar was involved in acquiring one of the two new PSL franchises, Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen, and also operates Chicago Kingsmen in the United States’ Minor League Cricket competition.

The franchise’s new name has not been publicly confirmed, though Kingsmen have promised to relaunch the team with fresh branding for the 2026 season starting in August.

CPL returns to Jamaica

Sabina Park will host four matches this year, marking the first CPL games in Jamaica since 2019 and giving local fans the chance to see the Tallawahs in action once again.

Pete Russell, the CPL chief executive, said the league is delighted to work with the Government of Jamaica to facilitate the return of a franchise and matches at Sabina Park.

The 2026 Caribbean Premier League is scheduled to run from early August until September 21, with the Tallawahs poised to rejoin the competition and rekindle local and international fan interest.

PSL Team

Last month, the Kingsmen secured the Hyderabad franchise in the Pakistan Super League for a record PKR 1.75 billion, setting the highest franchise fee in the league’s history to date.

Hyderabad becomes the PSL’s seventh team, joining Sialkot as the second new franchise, with owners aiming to build a strong side and elevate the city’s profile in Pakistan cricket.
