The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) added a record 25,281 new investors in September 2026, marking the highest monthly increase in its investor base. The total number of investors reached 656,218 by the end of the month.
Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted the development during a gong ceremony at the PSX held to mark the listing of Naya Nazimabad Apartments REIT. He said the number of PSX investors had more than doubled from 321,144 in March 2024 to 656,218 in September 2026.
Aurangzeb also noted that 11 companies entered the stock market during fiscal year 2026, the highest number in more than two decades. Five initial public offerings (IPOs) had already been completed during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027.
The finance minister said the government aims to use capital markets to support business financing, infrastructure, housing, innovation and job creation. He also highlighted the growing role of REITs in mobilizing investment for the housing sector.
According to Aurangzeb, around Rs. 60 billion has been financed under the Prime Minister’s Apna Ghar Programme, while banks have approved another financing pipeline of around Rs. 340 billion awaiting disbursement.
He also said foreign investor interest was growing in sectors including minerals and mining, agriculture, IT, oil and gas, and refinery upgrades. The government is seeking to shift economic relations toward greater trade and investment while advancing reforms in taxation, energy, state-owned enterprises and public finance.
