The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has blocked more than 100 fake e-challan websites that were fraudulently collecting online payments by misusing the name and logo of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). The crackdown aims to protect citizens from phishing scams and financial fraud linked to fake traffic fine portals.
The action was taken after the PSCA formally reported the fraudulent activity and shared details of the fake websites with the PTA. These websites were designed to look like official e-challan portals, deceiving citizens into paying traffic fines through illegal channels. With the growing shift toward digital payments, authorities have seen a rise in such cyber-enabled scams.
According to a PSCA spokesperson, the blocked websites targeted citizens by falsely claiming to offer e-challan payment services. By copying official branding, the scammers deliberately misled users and carried out unauthorized financial transactions. The spokesperson strongly advised the public to avoid making payments on unverified or suspicious websites.
Citizens were reminded that e-challan payments should only be made through the official PSCA website, echallan.psca.gop.pk, or via the Public Safety App. The PSCA further confirmed that legal action against individuals and groups involved in creating fake Safe City websites has been expanded, reinforcing a zero tolerance policy against digital fraud.
