PTA, FIA Crack Down on Illegal Foreign SIM Card Sellers

ISLAMABAD: In a coordinated operation, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing conducted nationwide raids against sellers of illegal SIM cards.

The raids were carried out in Abbottabad, Skardu, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot, targeting individuals and entities involved in the unauthorized distribution and sale of pre-activated foreign SIM cards. These SIMs were reportedly being used for illegal activities, including cybercrime, financial fraud, unverified communications, and abduction and other unlawful activities

Several suspects were apprehended during the raids, and a substantial number of illegal SIM cards were seized. Authorities believe these SIMs pose a significant risk to public safety by enabling anonymous and untraceable communications, making them a tool for criminal activities.

PTA and FIA have intensified monitoring efforts to curb the illicit trade of pre-activated foreign SIM cards. Security agencies have expressed concern about the growing misuse of such SIMs and are reinforcing strict regulatory measures to prevent their distribution.

Authorities have also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious SIM card sales to the relevant authorities. Strict legal action will be taken against violators to ensure compliance with telecommunications regulations.
