PTA & FIA Raid Ufone Franchise in Mianwali Over Illegal SIM Issuance

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), in collaboration with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, Lahore, has intensified its crackdown on illegal SIM issuance. In a recent raid on a Ufone franchise in Mianwali, authorities uncovered a major SIM fraud operation.
During the operation, 496 fake fingerprint impressions, multiple Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, two scanners, and a laptop were seized. The FIA Cyber Crime Circle took these items as evidence, arrested the franchise owner, and registered an FIR to proceed with legal action. Investigations are underway to identify additional individuals involved in the fraud.
The raid is part of PTA’s broader efforts to combat SIM-related fraud and prevent circumvention of the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS). PTA said in a statement it remains committed to eradicating illegal SIM issuance, ensuring stricter enforcement of telecom security regulations across Pakistan.
