Cabinet Approves Amendment To Telecom Law To Revise Pta Officials Remuneration

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a license suspension order for Track and Trace (Private) Limited. The company failed to obtain a required Commencement Certificate, despite repeated notices.

PTA granted Track and Trace a non-exclusive license on June 11, 2010. The license allowed the company to operate telecom services in a specified region. Under telecom laws, the company had one year to begin operations.

However, Track and Trace failed to start services or submit the Commencement Certificate. PTA sent reminders in October 2023 but received no response.

Show Cause Notice Ignored

On December 16, 2024, PTA issued a Show Cause Notice (SCN), asking the company to explain the delay within 30 days. It also scheduled a hearing for February 27, 2025.

Track and Trace did not attend the hearing or reply to the notice. PTA confirmed that notices went to the addresses the company had registered. No updated address was shared, which forced PTA to move forward without input from the company.

PTA Issues One-Month Suspension

PTA reviewed the case and decided on a one-month suspension. If the company fails to submit its Commencement Certificate within that time, PTA will terminate the license without further notice.

“The license is hereby suspended for a period of one month or till the licensee obtains a Commencement Certificate,” the order states.

PTA also directed other telecom operators—including all LDIs, LLs, TIPs, and mobile licensees—to suspend services offered to Track and Trace. These services will remain suspended until further notice.
