The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has released the findings of its Quality of Service (QoS) survey for fixed broadband services across Pakistan for the fourth quarter of 2024.
Most providers, including PTCL and big names, lacked some critical key performance indicators, as the report suggests.
The comprehensive survey evaluated the performance of 15 unique operators in 11 major cities, adhering to the Fixedline Broadband Regulation, 2022. This fixed broadband QoS survey provides crucial insights into the current state of internet service quality for consumers nationwide.
The survey, conducted across 26 locations, assessed various key performance indicators (KPIs) to determine operator compliance. These parameters likely included factors such as internet speed, latency (Round Trip Time – RTT), and packet loss, although specific details on all monitored parameters are available within the full report.
City-Wise Performance Highlights from the Fixed Broadband QoS Survey
A city-wise summary of operator performance reveals a mixed landscape. While several operators demonstrated strong compliance, achieving a 100% compliance status in cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Manshera, Faisalabad, Haripur, Islamabad, and Peshawar, others faced challenges. Notably, in Gawadar, PTCL and NTC showed lower compliance percentages. The fixed broadband services in Gawadar appear to require attention to meet the established quality standards.
For instance, PTCL in Gawadar recorded a 50% compliance, and NTC in the same city showed a 33.3% compliance. In contrast, operators like Cybernet, Multinet, TES, and others demonstrated high levels of compliance in various cities. The “Overall Score” and “Percentage Compliance” provide a clear snapshot of each operator’s performance in the surveyed locations.
The report also delves into specific KPI analysis. Regarding Round Trip Time (RTT) for the local network, the majority of operators met the threshold of <= 40ms. However, the survey identified NTC and PTCL in Gwadar as not complying with this specific KPI. Similarly, RTT for the international segment (terrestrial) was also analyzed, with results varying across operators and cities. Visual representations, such as bar graphs, further illustrate the RTT measurements for different operators in cities like Lahore.
