PTA Responds to Viral Internet Slowdown Claims

Published by

In an official clarification issued on January 14, 2026, PTA stated that reports circulating on social media about possible internet disruption or slowdown are incorrect and without any factual basis. The authority confirmed that internet connectivity across the country is stable, with no interruptions reported so far.

“Internet services across Pakistan remain stable and fully operational,” PTA said, adding that consumers should not be misled by unverified claims,

The concern emerged after ISP Nayatel informed its customers about unavoidable maintenance work on one of Pakistan’s submarine cables scheduled for January 15 around 2 PM. The maintenance, expected to last up to eight hours, mentioned a possibility of temporary slowness but did not specify the cable’s name or location.

Responding to this, PTA clarified that routine submarine cable maintenance is a normal technical process and does not usually impact nationwide internet performance.

PTA also confirmed that major upstream providers, including PTCL and Transworld, are operating normally and no service degradation has been observed on their networks. The authority added that it is continuously monitoring network performance to ensure uninterrupted connectivity for users.
