The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been honored with holding the “Asia-Pacific Regulators Roundtable” for the first time in Pakistan, said the chairman of PTA, Syed Ismail Shah.
The Roundtable conference is a platform for telecommunication/ICT regulators in the region with a platform that fosters dynamic and strategic discussions, sharing information, relevant experiences, and practices. It also serves as a debating ground for possible solutions and opportunities for potential collaboration to address emerging regulatory issues and challenges.
It will be held from 18th to 19th July 2016, and will be attended by representatives from over 23 countries. Organized jointly by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), it is the 6th iteration of the conference.
The chairman of PTA also confirmed about a training event called the “ITU-PTA International Training Program (ITP) 2016. It will be held right after the Roundtable from the 20th to the 22nd of July. The purpose of the training program is to build skills to address the policy and regulatory issues in the era beyond convergence of telecommunications, information technology. It will also focus on the implications of a smartly digital society for collaborative regulation and bring together international experiences in this area with a focus on Pakistan’s experiences and the lessons learned.
Some of the key topics that will be taken up in training sessions are broadband for networked society, digital financial inclusion, and mobile apps, cybersecurity, consumer protection & quality of service, OTT players: challenges and opportunities, regulatory impact assessment, spectrum management and ICT for persons with disabilities & women empowerment.
