The Punjab School Education Department has approved the continuation of currently engaged School Teacher Interns (STIs) and ordered the recruitment of new interns against vacant positions across the province.
According to a notification issued on September 25, 2026, all Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of District Education Authorities (DEAs) have been directed to take immediate action under the School Teacher Internship (STI) Program 2024.
The department has approved fresh agreements for existing STIs, allowing them to continue working from August 24, 2026, to May 31, 2027. The decision is aimed at maintaining teaching services in schools where interns are already engaged.
Meanwhile, district authorities have been instructed to begin the recruitment process for new STIs against vacant positions. The hiring will be carried out according to the eligibility criteria of the STI Program 2024 and the district-wise allocations attached to the notification.
The School Education Department has directed all DEAs to implement the decision according to the prescribed terms, conditions and eligibility requirements. District authorities have also been asked to submit compliance reports to the department at the earliest.
The department declared implementation of the decision a top priority.
