Layyah district administration has issued a strict ban on leaving open pits, ditches, or deep excavations unattended without proper safety measures. The move comes after officials highlighted the dangers these pits pose, including drowning risks and mosquito-borne diseases. Landowners and responsible individuals have been directed to immediately fill, cover, or secure such areas.
Deputy Commissioner Asif Ali stressed that stagnant water in these pits and ponds provides breeding grounds for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of dengue and other illnesses. He warned that unattended excavations are especially dangerous for children, who are more likely to fall into open pits.
The district administration’s decision aligns with broader public safety and health initiatives. In January, Layyah authorities approved the installation of over 160 water filtration plants across the district to improve drinking water quality and reduce health hazards from unsafe water sources.
