The Punjab government is set to present its Budget 2026-27 on Tuesday, with a proposed allocation of Rs. 2.34 billion for the province’s Information and Culture Ministry to support media development, cultural initiatives, and infrastructure projects.
According to budget proposals, the government plans to invest in a range of projects aimed at strengthening Punjab’s cultural sector and modernizing media-related facilities across the province.
One of the key initiatives included in the budget is the establishment of a Film and Music School, for which Rs. 180 million has been proposed. The project is expected to promote creative arts, talent development, and professional training opportunities for aspiring artists and musicians.
The government has also proposed Rs. 180 million for the construction of a new convention center in Lahore, aimed at enhancing the city’s capacity to host cultural, educational, and public events.
A significant portion of the budget has been earmarked for digital transformation initiatives. The proposed allocation includes Rs. 250 million for the AI Central Media Monitoring Project, which is designed to strengthen media monitoring capabilities through the use of artificial intelligence and advanced digital tools.
Meanwhile, Rs. 450 million has been allocated for the upgradation of the Alhamra Arts Council. The funding will be used to improve cultural infrastructure, expand facilities, and support arts-related activities throughout the province.
Officials say these allocations form part of the Punjab government’s broader strategy to promote culture, strengthen media institutions, and improve public facilities. The ministry is expected to utilize the funds for projects that can deliver visible public benefits while supporting the growth of creative industries.
The provincial finance team is currently reviewing budget proposals before final approval. Once finalized by the provincial cabinet, the budget will be presented before the Punjab Assembly for consideration and approval.
The proposed spending reflects the government’s focus on combining cultural development with technological advancement, particularly through investments in media modernization and artificial intelligence-based monitoring systems.
