Punjab authorities have issued a clear warning after a viral social media message falsely claimed that driving licenses can be obtained online without a driving test. Officials confirmed the claim is fake and urged citizens to rely only on official government platforms for license-related services.
A message widely shared on WhatsApp and social media alleged that Punjab residents could apply for a driving license online through a website named dastakpunjab.online, without appearing for a physical driving test. The message also claimed that applicants could pay fees via Easypaisa or JazzCash under a so-called “Driving License Management System,” allegedly linked to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision.
However, Punjab Traffic Police have categorically denied these claims, calling the website fraudulent and misleading.
Punjab Traffic Police spokesperson Muhammad Usman Qureshi clarified that the only official platform for online driving license services is dastak.punjab.govt.pk, which operates under a government domain. He stressed that first-time applicants must visit designated traffic police centers in person.
“Biometric verification, photographs, video recording, and driving tests are mandatory for new driving licenses and cannot be completed online,” Qureshi stated.
Officials added that the fake website has already been flagged for potential legal action.
Digital security experts have also warned that such fake portals are commonly used to steal sensitive personal and financial information. Citizens are advised not to share CNIC details, documents, or payment information on unverified websites and to report suspicious links immediately.
