The Punjab Traffic Police have intensified their crackdown on one-way traffic violations, issuing over 29,700 challans in September, nearly double compared to last month. Officials confirmed fines of Rs. 2,000 were imposed on violators to curb accidents caused by wrong-way driving.
This surge follows growing concerns over road safety across Punjab, where wrong-way driving is a frequent cause of collisions. In Lahore alone, more than 10,000 challans were handed out, reflecting strict enforcement measures by the provincial traffic police.
Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, directed Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to remain vigilant and ensure zero tolerance against violators. He stressed that one-way violations endanger not just the drivers but also pedestrians and other road users.
Authorities urged the public to comply with traffic rules to avoid heavy fines and ensure safer roads. Officials described the campaign as a necessary step to instil discipline among motorists and reduce accidents.
