Punjab Government Adopts Web 3.0 to Avoid Data Leakage in the Future

Recent hacking and audio leaks have affected the government in a lot of ways. Using Web 3.0 technology, the government will now be able to defend themselves against such incidents

Over the whole last month, Pakistan’s media gave its undivided attention to the infamous audio leaks. These files included audio calls and recordings of some of Pakistan’s most influential people. The list includes PM Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, COAS Qamar Jawed Bajwa and even opposition leader Imran Khan.

Consisting of sensitive details, these audio files unveiled a lot of truths and also damaged the reputation of many senior politicians. Having met such a massive impact, the government knew that this is something they should instantly deal with.

Adding to the list of precautions after the audio leaks, the Punjab government have now decided to adopt Web 3.0. With this decision, the Punjab government will move towards a decentralized system. With a decentralized system in place, it would be difficult for anyone to carry out a data breach.

Before taking this decision, Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi constituted a 22-member committee. This committee was led by finance as well as information and technology ministers. All members of this committee were told to analyze, study and research. Apart from that they were also tasked to form a road map for the adoption of Web 3.0 in Punjab.

“Disrupting business as usual; Under web 3.0 we want to find avenues in “new economy”, “tech R&D” and create a pool of new talent that can be part of the Web 3 ecosystem. Pakistan’s future stands on two pillars: youth and digital – both part of the core manifesto of the PTI and Imran Khan.” said Information and Technology Minister Dr Arslan Khalid thus breaking the news on his Twitter account.

Information Technology University Vice-Chancellor Dr Sarfraz Khurshid said that using Web 3.0 could bring massive changes in encryption and protect public offices in a more robust manner. He then went on to talk about the different ways in which governments should make use of the web3 to ensure fairness and transparency.

While still underdevelopment, we could soon see the government of Punjab carrying out operations on a Web 3.0 ecosystem. Do you think other provincial governments should also step up and embrace decentralized technology.
